Globacore FreeRoam
Demo at AWE 2017
Santa Clara, CA, June 1, 2017 – Globacore Interactive Technologies today announced it has been named an AWE Auggie Award 2017 winner for Best in Show VR at the 8th annual Augmented World Expo (AWE) 2017. Taking place June 1 at the Santa Clara Convention Center under the banner “Superpowers to Change the World,” this year’s AWE Auggie Awards ceremony celebrated companies and products deploying a full spectrum of AR & VR technologies designed to drive economic growth and shape the future of computing.
Globacore's Free Roam VR demo takes multiple people at a time through multiple virtual environments. Created to showcase the versatility and intense immersion offered by an extra-large untethered VR experience, participants journey from a "Star-Trek Holodeck" - style lobby to a warehouse with a photorealistic 3D scanned and animated human, to the inside of... his brain! And then from inner space to outer-space where the visitors find themselves on a space-station in zero gravity, then back to Earth in a city street to defend themselves against incoming space invaders... and finally ending up in a creepy cabin in the woods, where they are joined by a zombie horde... only to find out that the zombies are really only interested in completing a famous and "thrilling" synchronized dance routine, with your help.
The Free Roam experience is made technically possibly by high powered MSI backpack computers packing nVidia GTX1070 videocards, Intel i7 processors, modified Oculus Rift CV1 headsets and hand controllers, and Optitrack motion capture cameras… plus some extra high end technical wifi-wizardry.
The experience was a collaborative co-sponsored production made possible by Globacore, AWE, and The Taylor Group.
AWE is the world’s largest and longest running conference and expo dedicated to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Since 2010, the annual AWE Auggie Awards have promoted and recognized the industry’s most exciting augmented reality AR + VR technologies, exposing new companies, talented individuals and innovative experiences to venture capitalists, industry experts, senior level business practitioners and AR + VR thought leaders.
The 2017 AWE Auggie Awards contest was the most competitive in the event’s history, with more than 200 award submissions from a wide array of public and private companies of all sizes and industries, each vying to win an award across 10 different general categories and two best-in-show categories.
“It was exciting enough to be able to demo our latest technical capability to such an expert audience at AWE – winning Best in Show VR for the piece was an unexpected and exceptional vote of confidence for us around the potential for our offering – Free Roam VR experiences for brands and experiential marketing activations. There’s no beating VR for levels of engagement of the users, which is primarily what we’re after… but Free Roam VR is engagement on steroids!’, said Ben Unsworth, Co-Founder Globacore
“This year’s crop of contestants was fierce, with every company submitting ingenious ideas and experiences worthy of recognition in this evolving industry,” said Ori Inbar, founder and executive producer of AWE. “AWE’s Auggie Awards gives the AR + VR community the kind of visibility and validation that can easily turn into the next ‘big thing’ for enterprise, businesses and consumers, and we thank all of our entrants, judges, sponsors and partners for supporting the 2017 contest.”
